Why Social Media is Such a Big Deal in 2021

So COVID-19 came along and rocked our worlds, we were forced to stay inside, to communicate with our friends virtually rather than face to face, and to tell people about our day through our social media platforms.

These factors meant a substantial explosion in both the number of people using social media regularly, as well as the time they are spending in total. While COVID could be on the way out following vaccines, I think we can all expect social media increase to be here to stay. This is a fantastic opportunity for any brand to get the most from digital marketing. If people are spending more time on their phone, then that means that there is more opportunity to see you.

So, if your customers are on social media, then that’s where you need to be.

Ideally, you want to be on all platforms, posting multiple times per day. If you are completely new to social media then we can see how that may not be practical at all, what we would suggest in that case is that you are experimenting with different social platforms and are posting regularly to see which gets some traction. The obvious choice might be Facebook, but you shouldn’t neglect Instagram for visual-based companies, Tik Tok if you are feeling particularly creative or others to boot. LinkedIn is a must for business to business companies, and frankly, every business can benefit from posting on almost any platform.

Why Linkedin And Tiktok? I’ve heard of them, but I don’t think they are for me.

A lot of platforms only show your work to a limited amount of people – ie. people who follow you (unless you pay for ads). While TikTok, and LinkedIn can expose you to potentially thousands of viewers on your first, second, or third post, all without having to build your personal audience first. This is huge.

The answer to success on platforms is easier than you expect: just post.

If you sell caravans, make videos talking about your caravans and plots you have for sale.
Knit hats? Take pictures of them, post them online detailing the design process and why you chose the colours that you did. The fantastic thing about starting a business is that you quickly become an expert in your field, this expertise is valuable for people who are interested in the kind of products or services that you offer.

Don’t be too precious about your feed.

Too many people think too much about their social feed, they treat it like an art gallery – this is the wrong approach, perfectionism will be your downfall here! You can be put off posting for months on end if you think you don’t have the right content. Do what you can when you can, and get it out there – this is an attention game.

Learn as you go

Paralysis by analysis can be a big problem when it comes to social media – where momentum is the driving factor. You want to be posting from right now, and you can learn the intricacies of social media and how to maximise your growth as you go.

Engage with your audience

Whenever anyone messages you or comments on your image, you should be commenting back, answering their questions, thanking them for their kind words. You can also go on similar pages’ and engage with the community there too.
