The Latest Industry Updates

Social media is constantly changing by the day and it can be difficult to keep up sometimes. That is why we are back with the latest industry updates. Read on to find out some new features that have been added to your favourite social media platforms.

Instagram

Photos Will Get More Focus

Good news for Instagram purists -It looks like Instagram is going back to its roots as chief Adam Mosseri says that the platform has gone too hard on pushing videos, and will look to make photos more of a focus in 2023.

Mosseri further notes that photos will remain a key focus for the app, and that maintaining the right balance in this respect will be key.

Quiet mode

Instagram’s adding a new feature to the app which provides users to control their in-app experience, with new tools that better enable you to take a break from the app, and options to manage what you are shown in content recommendations.

Instagram’s adding a new Quiet Mode, which will switch off all notifications, add a Quiet Mode notifier to your profile status, and implement an auto-responder on your DMs.

Instagram further notes that anybody can use the new Quiet Mode tools, but it’ll be prompting teens specifically to do so if it detects that they are spending a significant amount of time on Instagram late at night. Quiet Mode is now available to all users in the UK, US, Ireland, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand, with more regions coming soon.

Instagram Notes

Instagram is rolling out Notes, a new way to share your thoughts using just text and emojis. Notes are short posts of up to 60 characters using just text and emojis. To leave a note, go to the top of your inbox, select the followers you follow back or people on your Close Friends list, and your note will appear at the top of their inbox for 24 hours. Replies to notes will arrive as DMs in your inbox.

Instagram found during testing that the average person liked having a lightweight, easy way to share what’s on their mind and start conversations. From asking for recommendations to sharing what they are up to, Notes give people a casual and spontaneous way to express themselves and connect with each other. Instagram Notes is currently only available in the US.

LinkedIn

Video Captions

LinkedIn now automatically generates captions for videos uploaded to the platform (Currently only available in English). You can choose to add or edit these captions before publishing the video.

You can also activate high contrast mode on the LinkedIn app to enhance the accessibility of videos for those with visual impairments or low vision.

Post Scheduling

LinkedIn now provides the capability that many brands and professionals demand – the ability to schedule and plan their posts in advance. A “schedule” icon will now appear next to the “post” button when you are creating a post. Click the icon to schedule your post, then select the day and time you want your content to be shared. You have complete control over your content and can edit as you go.

TikTok

IMDb is collaborating with TikTok

TikTok has launched a feature that allows users to link to movie and TV titles directly within the videos they create. The link directs people to a dedicated in-app page that showcases other videos that are linked to the same title and highlights essential data about the film or TV show, provided by IMDb, including top cast members, director, genre, release date, runtime, and user rating.
